After the recent shooting scare, the Art of Living (AoL) ashram has now been receiving extortion calls. According to administrative members of AoL, for the past three days they have been receiving extortion calls from unidentified men, who threatened to defame the organisation if their demand for Rs 42 crore was not met.
AoL spokesperson and secretary to founder Sri Sri Ravishankar, Gireem Govind, said, “The calls were being made to three spiritual teachers for the past three days. We initially ignored it, but when the frequency of the calls and SMSes increased, we sensed that it could be serious and handed over the call details to the police on Tuesday.”Asked why they delayed informing the police, Govind said, “We wanted to look into the matter before making it public.”
Calls were made only from Indian mobile numbers and the caller has been speaking in English and Kannada.The spokesperson added that they have no enemies and suspect no one.Inspector General of Police Kamal Panth said, “I have asked them to file a complaint so that we could initiate investigations.’’
